Sailng is a blast, and it is much more accessible and affordable than many people think! The mission of BAYS is to encourage and promote the growth of junior sailing and racing in Northern California. Focused on children and teens ages eight to eighteen, BAYS is founded on the premise that sailing is unique in the developmental opportunities it offers to young people. In addition to sheer fun and the opportunity to develop life-long boat handling and racing skills, sailing builds character through its time-honored emphasis on self-reliance, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The mission of BAYS is to foster improved communication and cooperation among existing and aspiring junior sailing programs in the region; generate excitement and enthusiasm for junior sailing and its ideals; facilitate the linkage of aspiring junior sailors to available resources; and provide a forum for the collection and dissemination of ideas and best practices in support of junior sailing.
The initiatives sponsored by BAYS evolve to keep pace with the changing needs and desires of the junior sailing community. Current initiatives include:
Maintenance of a BAYS web site.
Providing key Contacts information - BAYS board members who can help aspiring junior sailors and their families locate nearby junior sailing programs, identify potential financial grants, and generally provide information on the Northern California junior sailing scene.
Coordination, maintenance and distribution of a master Calendar of Northern California junior sailing events, including both junior sailing and high school sailing events.
Sponsorship of multiple BAYS Regatta Series for multiple dinghy classes, including the BAYS Summer Series, and as well as targeted BAYS Winter Series for Opti, c420’s and Laser classes.
Coordination of advanced racing clinics intended to prepare area sailors to compete successfully on a regional, national and international level.
